Age and overexposure to the sun are partly to blame for the dark spots, but an excess of oxidative stress and pollution has been found to accelerate skin pigmentation by 20%. These problems are due to melanins in proliferation on the skin surface, while an oxidized, inflamed epidermis means that too many new melanins are produced.

Adequate sun protection is key in fading dark spots. It’s essential to choose a sunscreen with a high SPF and blocking ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

Sleeping mask focus: specially developed for Asian women’s skin
