Breaking down your skin's enemies: different types of wrinkles

Over time, your skin loses elasticity, leading to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles: a beauty nightmare.

But where do they form? Here's our breakdown of wrinkle types and where they can be found, so you can break them down yourself using a secret weapon!

Dehydration lines

Our bodies are made up of between 50-75% water, which keeps our systems functioning correctly, including the dermis. Without sufficient H²O, skin cannot repair itself nor generate new cells as effectively, leading to the formation of wrinkles as the firmness of the skin deteriorates. The decrease in the level of natural-occurring Hyaluronic Acid within the skin’s layers can further aggravate the lack of retained moisture in skin.

Where do dehydration lines form? Often, wrinkles caused by dehydration appear on the forehead: raise your eyebrows, see the lines form, then relax your muscles. If the lines remain visible, these are most likely dehydration wrinkles - the skin doesn't bounce back into place.

Expression wrinkles

From smiling and squinting to frowning, the repetitive action of moving our facial muscles can lead to the development of wrinkles where the skin creases, especially as we age and our skin loses its youthful elasticity.

Where do expression wrinkles form ? The most common fine lines and wrinkles that form are around the mouth (smile lines), eyes (crow's feet) and between the eyebrows (frown lines).

Ageing wrinkles

With age comes a loss in skin firmness, resulting from a decrease in collagen and elastin production. This leaves skin slack: the epidermis does not bounce back into position as it did when it was younger, leaving thin lines etched into the skin.

Where do ageing wrinkles form? These age lines, commonly found around the eyes, mouth and forehead, are less visible than other wrinkles, but are nonetheless unwelcome on our faces!

Sleeping wrinkles

It's not only your face that suffers from wrinkles as we get older: the body does too.

Where do sleeping wrinkles form? In particular the décolletage can form thin lines between and over the curve of the breasts, especially evident after sleeping on one's side. A similar wrinkle can be find on your cheeks if you spent the night on one side, squeezing your face into the pillow. The best position for a wrinkle-free dream is on your back.

How to prevent and reduce wrinkles

Maintaining a regular skincare routine is a way of putting off the development of wrinkles and reducing the appearance of any wrinkles you might already have. Research has proved the thickness and health of the dermis reduces from morning to evening, causing the apparition of wrinkles.
The Liftactiv Supreme cream targets this line development, aka "overday aging". Apply the cream to the face and neck areas twice a day. From just 7 days of use, wrinkles are visibly reduced and the complexion is younger looking.
